Why divers love Moalboal
Few places in the world let you swim with millions of sardines straight from the beach. In Moalboal you can, and at Amigos the sardine school lives on our house reef, a few fin kicks from the shop on Panagsama Beach. Drop in at any time of day and you’ll find it twisting into clouds and bait balls, with turtles grazing on the reef below and, now and then, a hunting thresher shark or a cruising whale shark. True story!
Ten minutes away by boat, Pescador Island rises from deep water. Its coral walls, overhangs and the light-filled cavern known as the Cathedral make it one of the best-loved dives in the Visayas. Closer to shore, the peninsula’s reef walls offer gentle drifts, macro life and calm sites for first dives and training.
The water is warm all year and the sardines never leave, so there’s no bad time to come. November to May usually brings the calmest seas and the clearest water but also the crowds. June to October are the quietest months, best time to enjoy the dive sites in a more private way.
